This course is designed to provide both enlightenment and compliance in ethics for the prevention specialist, utilizing a hero’s journey to tell the prevention narrative from theory to practice.
Objectives:
- Identify standards of conduct for prevention specialist.
- Understand the role of emotional intelligence theory in building rapport in a diverse work environment.
- Utilize decision making techniques in situational ethics for solving ethical dilemmas.
- Recognize the benefits of ethical organizations and the pitfalls of unethical organizations.
Presenters:
Albert Gay, M.S. has over twenty years of experience in community work. Albert began as a youth pastor in a local church in Gary, Indiana. Since that time, he has continued to influence communities with prevention services through his various roles at youth servicing agencies, nonprofits, and coalitions. Albert Gay is a consultant with both private and governmental agencies. As a national trainer with SheRay’s & Associates and the TTJ Group, Albert has public health practices to the behavioral health workforce, the United States military, diverse population groups and community coalitions. In the state of Indiana, Albert coordinates substance misuse and HIV prevention strategies and trainings. Locally, Albert has leadership roles in coalitions that serve his home city and county. Besides prevention, his other areas of interest include faith-based initiatives, mental health promotion, societal and health disparities, social justice, cultural competence, historical trauma, and strategic planning. He holds a Bachelor’s degree from Hampton University, a Master’s degree from Oakland City University, and a Ministry degree from Christian International’s Ministry Training College.
Dr. Brenda Atchison is a strategic thinking professional educator, entrepreneur, author and thought leader with over 27 years in varying aspects of education. She is adept at organizational culture assessment, identification, intervention and turnaround strategies. As an experienced academic testing professional/administrator trained in MBTI personality testing, Emotional Intelligence (EQ), Entrepreneurial Edge and Distance learning, she coaches small business and individuals for success.
