This webinar is intended to provide an overview of the fiscal year 2020 needs assessment and strategic planning process. It describes how placing the development of comprehensive prevention strategy at the center of your needs assessment and strategic planning process leads to greater efficiency and effectiveness when gathering data, making key prioritization decisions, planning your strategies, and measuring your effectiveness. The webinar also provides an overview of the face-to-face workshops and midpoint check-ins that will support you in conducting your local needs assessment and in developing a comprehensive prevention strategy.
- Augment attendees understanding of “comprehensiveness” in prevention.
- Help attendees better understand how placing comprehensiveness at the center of their needs assessment and strategic planning process will increase the efficiency and effectiveness with which they do this work.
- Ensure attendees can identify 3-5 places where they can go to get local substance abuse consumption and consequence data.

Dr. William Geary, Ph.D. is the founder of Global Evaluation Solutions and has 20 successful years of evaluation, organizational consulting, and community-level prevention experience. He works with local public and private prevention and treatment service delivery organizations, state level prevention agencies/organizations, and a variety of community-based health and violence prevention initiatives all over the country. Dr. Geary’s previous experience includes Deputy Director of Evaluation and Research at the National Coalition Institute, a Master Trainer with the Community Anti-Drug Coalitions of America, a trainer and consultant for Communities That Care, and a coalition coordinator for both suburban and urban prevention initiatives. He is also an experienced grant reviewer for the National Institute of Justice, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention, and the Office of Minority Health. Dr. Geary is a visiting Assistant Professor of Sociology & Criminal Justice at La Salle University in Philadelphia, PA. He lives in Doylestown, PA.
