Description:
All block grant providers who are new to the North Carolina Prevention System are required to attend this training at least once. Block grant providers will receive priority registration. If space is available, other groups will be allowed to register. The training will occur via independent study and an interactive 2-day workshop
SUMPST (Substance Use and Misuse Prevention Skills Training) prepares direct service providers to implement evidence-based Substance Abuse Prevention Programs and learn about the Prevention System in North Carolina. SUMPST provides a basic understanding of the components and best practices related to effective prevention practice.
Learning Objectives:
At the end of this course, direct service providers will be able to:

Describe the structure of the North Carolina Prevention System

Process the importance of NC Approved Strategies and ECCO Reporting System

Understand North Carolina Prevention Programming Guidance and Targets

Understand the Institute of Medicine Continuum of Care Model

Discuss the Six CSAP Strategies in regard to effective prevention programming

Demonstrate an understanding of the differences between Indicated, Universal and Selective Populations

Explain the concept of primary prevention

Describe the Strategic Prevention Framework

Audience
This training is designed for all new Prevention Staff with less than two years of experience who have not completed SUMPST or SAPST (Substance Abuse Prevention Skills Training) in the past.
